Anniston's East Alabama Commission Pulls Out the Stops—and the Plasticware for Annual Fish Fry and Senior Day
Few sights are more mouthwatering than the 500 lbs. of fried fish, 125 lbs. of slaw, never-ending mounds of French fries, and the many tender chicken fingers served up at the East Alabama Commission's Annual Senior Advisory Committee Meeting and Fish Fry.
The annual Fish Fry has become the unofficial kickoff for Older Americans Month activities within the East Alabama Commission region. Probate Judge Terry Mitchell and the Coosa County Commission carried on the yearly tradition by catering to 300 senior citizens, elected officials, county employees, and numerous visitors who came to Rockford Elementary School in Rockford, AL on May 7th to honor seniors and partake of some home-fried goodness.
Judge Mitchell not only ensured that his guests were well-fed, but he also entertained them by inviting Judge Ryan Robertson from Cleburne County to demonstrate his musical talents and lead the crowd in several old favorite songs. "The sentiment from all attending was that Judge Mitchell and the Coosa County Commission had truly outdone themselves again this year," said Carolyn Baker, Senior AIDES Project Director for the East Alabama Commission. The Commission also sponsored the Annual May Day Senior Celebration, held on May 13 th at the International MotorSports Hall of Fame in Talladega, a popular event which drew a huge turnout of participants this year.
