The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program
A brief Mission and History of the SEE Program:
Mission:
The mission of the SEE program is to assist the EPA and other federal, state, and local agencies in meeting their environmental mandates by using the talents and experience of older Americans. SEE Program enrollees benefit from the opportunity to maintain their technical skills, access new training opportunities and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy and to their own financial security.
History:
The SEE Program was formally established through the Environmental Programs Assistance Act of 1984 (P.L. 98-3 13). Under this act, EPA was authorized to enter into Cooperative Agreements with certain private, nonprofit organizations designated by the Secretary of Labor as organizations which are eligible to receive funds under Title V of the Older Americans Act of 1965. The Act specified that the EPA, through these Cooperative Agreements, may use individuals aged fifty-five and older in temporary, short term assignments, providing technical assistance to federal, state and local environmental agencies for projects on pollution prevention, abatement and control.
